Hot and cold

Hot in Hawaii: Cold in Canberra and now I've caught a cold!!

Hawaii was just what the doctor ordered with lots of lounging around on the beach, swimming in the lovely warm ocean, a bit of walking, some sight seeing and a couple of runs... not to mention the fab food and restaurants we discovered.

Back to reality this week and the good news it that the body seems to have decided that it's going to behave itself for a few weeks. The sore calves are nearly better, thanks to the Roman Gladiator-style tape gaitors, and some solid attention to calf strengthening.

Mr lulu and I did a couple of runs from Waikiki along the foreshore and past Diamond Head. On the first one I attempted to keep up with Mr lulu as he was just cruising. 3kms later I was a puffy sweaty mess, having run 3kms at uinder 6 min pace and he looked like he hadn't even started. That was the point I sent him on his way and ambled back to the hotel, having done just under 6kms; the furthest I'd done for ages.

Calfs were a bit sore afterwards as I didn't tape my legs so I iced and left it a couple of days before going out again. This time I kept Mr lulu in sight but went at my own pace; much more sensible. Same course, 6kms at 6.27 pace. Calf taped and no soreness... I also stepped up the calf strengthening after the first run as I'd been a bit slack on that.

Back to Sydney and having lost the whole of Sunday over the Pacific somewhere it was straight back to work on Monday; but first I had to try out the nice new running gear I bought in Hawaii. Great tops and leggings I found at lululemon athletica which is much cheaper in the US than here, but the gear is great. I like the name too ;)

So on Monday, I headed out for another 6km about the same pace and with no ill effects. I actually felt great at the end of the run for the first time in ages.

Weds it was off to chilly Canberra for a couple of days so my next run was down Northbourne Ave from Civic to Parliament House and back on Thurs; another 6kms at about 6.27 pace. A minor cold has settled in but nothing some cold and flu tablets couldn't sort out so I could go running.

So, fingers crossed that I have fixed the calves, my hormones/fatigue are in abeyance for a while and I can gradually build up some miles and reintroduce my fartlek and intervals.
Next run on Sunday with Ellie .. Yay!!

Nothing like running on holidays.
Must be a lot of joggers there I suspect.

Hope you can build on that base of a couple of good runs in Hawaii and that little rest also helps with the niggles.

You could have run with myself and Ruth for a bit on Wednesday - we were comfortably over 6 minute ks.

Why not become the Australian distributor for lululemon? :)

Sounds like a great holiday. I discovered Lululemon (yes, great name) in Sydney. Love the gear but I controlled the urge. Maybe next time. Hope the running continues to improve.

A great holiday, maybe I also need a recover period in Hawaii! About the Roman Gladiator-style you could be interested to know that yesterday I ran (???) around the Colosseo.
