Oh so close!
Here we are back from the Canberra marathon and Mr lulu came oh so close to his sub 3hr goal with a finish time of 3.00.12 on the clock. A 3 min pb, but where did those annoying few seconds come from. It was great to see everyone in Canberra and there were some great runs from everyone, with the exception of me who didn't make it to the start line of the 5km. I was feeling absolutely shattered on Saturday and although I could have dragged myself around I really couldn't be bothered. So I stood and cheered the 10km and made do with that.I'm hoping a week in Hawaii which is coming up soon will perk me up and I'll be back some reasonable running. I managed a nice 5km trot around Yarrawonga last week and will go for a run with Mr lulu in the morning. It will be the only time when I have any chance of keeping up with him for 3kms :) The benefit of not running much is that my niggles have recovered so let's hope that is the last of it as I really can't be doing with any more physio bills!
Thanks Mr 2P
... for the prompt to update.. and for the compliment :)
I'm still here but have had a bit of a struggle in the last week or so. I tried out the Roman gaitor look and it seems to help take the pressure of the shin. I then promptly stopped running for a week as I felt really under the weather and struggled to make it into work, let alone contemplate running.
However, last Sunday we took the new, bigger and faster Lulumobile down the coast to test it's road handling and to have a run along Lady Carrington Drive. After a week of doing very little it was a struggle but I plodded on for 6kms with the odd walk break and one ankle twist..... more of that later.
Tuesday, I ventured out in the pitch black of 5.30 around the local streets. 3kms in, a strange sensation followed by a sharp pain the heel brought me to a standstill and a spot of swearing, a bit of walking, a bit of stretching and then decided I had to run home or be late for work. I was convinced I now had another injury to add to my woes and scuttled off to the podiatrist in a hurry.
His verdict was possibly a tear to the plantar due to twisting the ankle. He has also doctored my asic running shoes by cutting off the outside flange which he believes may be contributing to the tight tib posts... interesting theory and they do feel better.
A further trip to Brad the physio to be taught how to do the strapping and some soothing about the heel pain. He had a different theory which related to the ankle twist and the subtalar joint in the foot. After a bit of manipulation it all seems fine so that's one less thing to worry about.
Friday I failed to get out of bed to run and so had to go in the evening. My fitness has totally escaped me and 4kms was a real struggle where I had to stop several times with severe stitch. I had every intention of getting up and going this morning but I've a headache for most of the weekend and so failed again! I've spent the weekend at a positive psychology course and feel totally knackered despite the lovely company and the stimulating subject.
So, a new week and the prospect of the Canberra 5km on Saturday. I'm still intending to run, but it will be a matter of struggling round I fear, which is a bit of a disappointment considering a few weeks ago I was feeling as if my fitness was coming back. Instead, I'll just treat it as a bit of a training run and an opportunity to take part in something; it's a year since I did anything so it will be nice to do something.
The plan this week:
Monday: gym session with the glute torturer
Tues: 40 min run
Weds: Spin
Thurs: 40 min run
Fri: Gym/swim
Sat: 5km fun run
Sun: Cheersquad duties for the marathon
Mr Lulu is looking good, down to his racing weight and ready to rock and roll. He is so light now that I can pick him up, which he thinks is very amusing and he keeps asking me to do it. It's obviously all that strength stuff I've been doing ;)
