Sunday Post

I'll try and make Sunday a regular posting day as it's the day I'm likely to have the most time.

Since my last post I have managed to keep to my programme.

Tues: 5 km around the streets in the day
Weds: Spin class
Thurs: 4 km
Fri: Rest day
Sat: 40 mins + Crazy Abs Lady class
Sun: 12kms

Today's 12km was hard work, a long slow plod. I'm lacking in energy this week and it's been hard work to get going. Still it's done now :) I tried to keep my heart rate at a reasonable level which meant walking up some of the hills. Consequently, the average pace was pretty slow at 6.50/km and still my average heart rate was 161. It will be interesting to see how that changes over the nex few weeks as I get a bit fitter. I suspect it is a bit higher than it should be because I'm feeling a bit fatigued.

This week's programme is similar:
Mon: Gym with the Glute Torturer
Tues: Massage am and Spin pm
Weds: 40 mins
Thurs: 40 mins with 20 mins fartlek in the middle
Fri: Rest day
Sat: 40 mins + Crazy Abs Lady
Sun: 14kms- yikes!

Lost in space

It appears that I have finally returned from the land of lost bloggers. It's a month since my last post and so I won't attempt to give an update of every run but here's the summary

I ran the Gold Coast 10km race - a cr*p time but considering the lack of consistent training I wasn't really surprised or worried. The first 5km were quite good but then I needed a short walk break before running the second half. It was great to be doing something again and to see all my CR friends.

Running a couple of days later, I felt that I was a runner again; a race completed and a few days later getting up in the cold dark winter Melbourne morning to run around the Tan. It felt good.. which means that the running madness may be returning.

In fact since then I have been a lot more committed to both my physio work and my training and I'm now back to 4 runs a week as well as a gym, pilates and Spin session. At this rate I'm in danger of getting fit again. The best news is that I think I'm finally really getting on top of the serious hip problems and the not so serious but annoying calf issues.

The other highlight of the last month was my birthday last weekend. I started the day with my traditional dip in the ocean with some equally mad friends, followed by a champagne breakfast.

We then headed up to the Central Coast for a long weekend and were joined with 6 friends and the mother in law. My gorgeous friends clubbed together and bought me a new Garmin 305 with a heart rate monitor - what great friends I have.

Of course I had to go out and play with that so I ran both Sat and Sun. I experimented in getting my heart rate to max and managed to get it up to 191 which is well over my theoretical max of 176, which is a relief as I'd be walking if I had to try and keep it at 70-80% of 176!

Since then I've done a gym session on Mon, a 35 min run on Tues and a Spin class this evening and I'm feeling good.

Next target race is the 10km at the Noosa Half marathon weekend on Aug 24th. Mr lulu will be going for another PB, and to get under 85 mins for the half and I'll be aiming to better my GC time. All I need now is for all my niggles to stay away and let me do some consistent training. I have a shiny new programme; designed by me with input from Easy Tiger. Once I've made it through this and the next 10km race then I'll start considering a return to the SWEAT squad. Fingers crossed!
