Hello park!

I pretty much stuck to the plan this week. I didn't make it to Spin on Wednesday as I couldn't get out of bed early enough, then I took my stuff to work with me but got stuck in traffic and then discovered I didn't have any shoes with me... It will take me a few weeks to get used to this commuting lark!

I did manage to do the most important bits of the week though and that was the three runs and my strength stuff so I'm beginning to feel like I am getting back on track.

Tuesday and Friday I pottered out for between 25 and 30 mins walk/run. Managed to do 25 mins on Friday with only 2.5 mins walking in the whole lot and nothing hurt! That's big progress to how I was a few months ago.

Today I headed down to see my old friend Centennial Park. I decided to do an outside loop of the park which is about 6.5kms. I didn't want to overdo things so I just stuck to running a max of 10 mins at a time before having a walk break. Took me about 55 mins to do the whole thing and about 25 mins of running, again with no pain. Things are looking up!

This week's plan as follows:

Mon: Glute Torturer
Tues: Walk/Run 30 mins
Weds: Swim and strength
Thurs: Spin
Fri: 30 mins walk run and strength
Sat: Spin and pilates
Sun: 60 mins walk/run

There will be a crazy abs lady session in there somewhere so this might change something. She managed to double book herself yesterday and so I missed out on my session. We're hoping to book something in for one evening this week. The crazy abs lady is not really crazy, just a bit eccentric. She does have some very interesting ideas about core stability, or core activation as she prefers to think of it. She was one of the orginial pilates instructors in Australia and used to do a lot of rehab work. She became a bit disatisfied with the results she was getting from Pilates and has now developed some of her own methods, which she calls Method One pilates. I must say after just 10 days of the exercises she has prescribed me I am beginning to feel more core stability so I'll stick with if for a few months. I've been doing pilates for years and I'm still getting injured and I'm still being told that I don't have enough core stability so I'm interested to see if she can get better results. Watch this space. More info on her website http://www.methodone.com.au

Back in the saddle

Thanks for all the comments and thoughts everyone; much appreciated.

Last week I struggled with the jet lag which seemed to really hit me hard this time around. I did do a session with the glute torturer but that was about it until Sunday when I started to feel more human.

It was down to Queen's Park and back for my 30 mins walk/jog. Not sure quite how much walking I did but not very much. Mainly just up the big hill... my legs and lungs are quite happy on the flat but don't like hills much at the moment.

It was my first day at work today and I spent most of it in a training course so it's an easy start to the week. I even managed to leave at 4.50 and be in the gym by 5.30. Maybe this wage slave thing won't be too bad after all!

Once in the gym I donned my new iPod (acquired under the guidance of my nephew in England) and hit the elliptical machine for 25 mins and then did some strength work. All feels pretty good so I'm really keeping everything crossed that I can have a smooth return to running.

The plan for the week is as follows:

Monday: Gym (tick!)
Tuesday: Walk/run 30 mins
Wednesday: Spin and strength
Thursday: Glute torturer
Friday: Walk/run 30 mins
Saturday: Mr lulu's birthday! Gym and crazy abs lady (more about that in another post; it's an experiment!)
Sunday: Walk/run 30 mins

If I get through all of that without incident and breakages I'll feel like I'm making a bit of progress.

I'm baaack!

Well, my lovely holiday didn't turn out quite as planned as my poor old Dad died suddenly three weeks ago. This meant curtailing our Italian holiday and hotfooting it back to England. I still can't quite believe it, and I don't think it has entirely sunk in as yet.

I arrived back in Sydney on Saturday night, feeling absolutely shattered, but am gradually getting my act together.
Running has taken a bit of a back seat over the last few weeks but I did manage one or two walk/runs. The rest has been very good for my hip though as it feels pretty good. I managed to get out of bed this morning and do a 30 min walk/run this morning with probably about 20 mins running; a big improvement on what I was doing before I went away, so that's encouraging.

I had a trip to see the lovely Brad this morning and he has instructed me to hit the strength programme hard this and next week, while doing some short walk/runs and then I can build up from there. So, I'm off to see the glute torturer tomorrow to get myself back on track and we'll go from there.

I'm starting my new job on Monday so will have to get into a whole new routine. I can't believe I'm giving up my life of self-employment but it was too good an opportunity to turn down. More about that next week when I have got my feet under the desk.

I've missed all my lovely blogging friends so I'm off now to catch up and see what you've all been doing!
